Chernobyl Children’s Pony Day
On Tuesday 24th July 2018 the Club supported the Chernobyl Children’s Project with a Pony experience day. The ten children and their host families went to Fairfield Riding School near Ranton for the day. The children arrived in England on Saturday 21st July so this was one of their first activity days. The day started just after 9.30am when they were shown how to care for a pony. This was interesting to watch as the teacher explained and then practically demonstrated whilst the Interpreter translated into Russian.
This session was then followed by a lesson in the outdoor school where the children, doctor and interpreter all had the opportunity to walk and trot on horseback. Lunch was a relaxing affair under the trees whilst everyone took a rest. The afternoon was filled with Gymkhana games which were great fun with much shouting and laughter. It was amazing to see how the children’s confidence grew during the day.
The children were all presented with named rosettes, T shirts and certificates.
Everyone then decamped to Helen and Stuart Perren’s house, with the children enjoying fun on a huge Bouncy Castle and then devouring pizza, chips and sweets.
The host families and club members were treated to a cream tea whilst they relaxed, chatted !!! and watched the children having fun.
A very rewarding event sponsored by the Club, with extra support from Rotarian Leslie Lee who provided the T Shirts and Helen who provided the snacks and cakes.
